Essex Street Opportunity Study
The Essex Street Street Redesign project seeks to transform a currently uninviting area of Newark into a more community-friendly space. The street is currently surrounded by parking lots, loading docks, and other urban service passages, making it unappealing and inaccessible for pedestrians. The project proposes subtle interventions that can change the perception of space and create new community areas for residents and visitors. These interventions could include the installation of public art, the addition of seating areas, and the creation of green spaces. The project will prioritize the safety of pedestrians, with the addition of crosswalks, traffic calming measures, and improved lighting. Through these interventions, the Essex Street Street project aims to create a more inviting and safe space that promotes community engagement and enhances the overall urban experience in Newark / rePLACE 2023
